Hans J. Wegner's CH327 dining table from 1962 is a good example of how creativity combined with excellent craftsmanship can lead to a stunning and interesting design. CH327 is a solid wood dining table with soft edges and rounded legs that taper towards the floor. The wood grain follows the length of the table top; which is supported by three different rails. Under the rails there is a side track on each side; which continues along the length of the table. There is a gap between the side rail and the table top. This creates the impression that the table top is floating. At each end there are two removable legs connected by a cross brace. The legs and uprights provide stability in the transverse direction; while the side rails provide stability in the longitudinal direction. The side rails are higher on the table legs and sit closer together to increase legroom when seated. The CH327 is available in two lengths: 190cm for six people and 248cm for eight people. Both tables can be extended at each end with an additional 40cm wide plate; increasing the number of seats to ten and twelve |
